Joe
E. Hill
Joe is an avid sailor having owned several sailboats, including a Cobo Rica 38 which he sailed eight times in the St. Petersburg to Isla Mujeres, Mexico race. He
also sailed it extensively around the Bahamas and the west coast of Florida. Both his sons became sailors and all three sailed on Sea Gem on the Atlantic crossing. Joe has sailed on Sea Gem several other
times, including the return from Guatemala. He has always wanted to traverse the Panama Canal in a sailboat, and will have his wish fulfilled on the Sea Gem.
A highway contractor in his own business since graduating from Georgia Tech in 1953, Joe served two years in the Army Corps of Engineers. He has also served six years on the
Southwest Florida Water Management District, and eight years on the St. Johns River Water Management District, serving as Vice Chairman under Saundra Gray, then two years as chairman.
Joe is married to Nonette, and they have four children, Wylie, William, Margaret, and Dusty and three grandchildren. Joe and Nonette have lived in Fruitland Park, FL, for the past 35 years.
